Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: Nation is going to pay homage to ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi, on the occasion of his 146th birth anniversary to be held October 2. In the state capital city, schools and colleges have readied themselves to celebrate the day by holding various cultural activities.
Students from various schools have been doing rehearsal to present skits on ‘Mahatma Gandhi and freedom fighting. “All we know that Gandhiji had played a major role to set India free from British. His contribution to India is incomparable. Therefore, we have been practicing a skit based on freedom struggle to pay tribute to a great personality,” said Manisha Ojha, a student, Unit-IX government boy’s high school.
Talks on the importance of trust and harmony in our lives will be also held at Unit-VI Girls High school on the day of Gandhi Jayanti. “Students are much concerned to maintain Gandhian virtues of non-violence, love, compassion and peace in this school. Still it is our responsibility to awaken them to honour Father of the Nation,” said a teacher of the school.
Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has advised its affiliated schools to encourage students to participate in CBSE Expression Series on Mahatma Gandhi. Students from Class I to Class XII can submit their entries as Essay/Poem/ Drawing in 22 scheduled languages and English on official website.
Different topics have been given to three categories. They are ‘Ten best things I learnt from the life and actions of Mahatma Gandhi’ topic for Class I to Class V, ‘Mahatma Gandhi and his education philosophy’ for Class VI to Class VIII and ‘Mahatma Gandhi: the apostle of peace and non-violence’ for Class IX to Class XII. Top 36 entries will be awarded with prize money of `2500.
