Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: Leaders elected at the just-concluded students’ union elections took oath of office at the respective educational institutions in the city, Thursday.
As reported earlier, most winning candidates were from Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) across the state.
The mood at Rama Devi Women’s University was sober as it went ahead with formalities post its first election after being declared a university.
No loud procession was seen as triumphant BCJD candidates entered the varsity premises.
Megha Kanungo, the president elect, said: “The promises I made to my fellow students were not just words. They reflect my determination to work for the betterment of this institution. I pledge to work with everyone and take RD to new heights.”
General secretary Anisha Subuddhi and Vice-president Sarojini Sarda echoed the sentiments of Kanungo.
Subuddhi said: “I can see a number of problems my institute is facing. I want to be a hand in shaping RD’s future. I will take efforts to introduce good hostel facilities, sanitation and drinking water facilities and also Wi-Fi and e-libraries.”
At Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar Autonomous College BCJD backed candidate Langnajeet Patra, who beat NSUI-backed candidate Aditya Jha by a huge margin, was sworn in as students’ union president.
“Winning was never in doubt. I have already held a few positions in the past. I know how I should work so that my college, which is one of the best in the state, got best status,” Patra said.
Kamala Nehru Women’s College saw Arundhati Panda taking oath as the students’ union president.
