Berhampur: Sadar police in Ganjam district arrested Thursday a man on charges of attempting to molest and violate the modesty of a Class V girl. The man has been identified as Kalia Swain (32). He will be produced in court Friday, informed inspector-in-charge Santoshini Oram.
According to police, Kalia lured the girl to a neighbour’s house. When all the members of the house left, leaving the two of alone, Kalia tried to force himself on the girl. However, the girl screamed for help. Hearing her painful screams, locals rushed to the spot. They saved the girl and forced Kalia to leave the spot.
The girl, after reaching home narrated her ordeal to the mother. Her mother lodged an FIR with the Sadar police station. Registering a case (Case No-236/20), police arrested the accused.
