New Delhi/Cuttack, Dec 14: Students of three government-run medical colleges in the state Monday filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the Orissa High Court order on the admission of students of the Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRMCH).
The students of the dental wing of SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack, MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH) in Berhampur, and VSS Medical College and Hospital (VSSMCH) of Burla sought a stay on the process of admission and relocation of students of the private medical college till the hearing on the case concludes.
“We have filed a SLP against the Orissa High Court order stating that private college students should not be allowed to take admission in government colleges. Medical Council of India has not approved more than 150 seats. The government colleges also do not have infrastructure for more than 150 students. The SLP will be mentioned Tuesday ad may be listed for hearing day after tomorrow,” said senior advocate Ashok Kumar Mohapatra, on behalf of the students.
The Orissa High Court, in its December 9 order, had directed the state government to complete registration, allotment and admissions of the students of the medical college by December 23. Following the order, the state government had announced a notification for relocation and admission of 124 students of the SRMCH in two government and three private medical colleges in the state.
Sources said a gazette notification has been issued by the state government over admission of the Sardar Rajas medical students and the admission process is scheduled to start Tuesday.
