Kendrapara, Dec 24: Amid a mournful atmosphere, over 3,000 residents of Deulatara and its adjoining villages Thursday paid their last homage to BSF constable Kishore Ranjan Rout who died in a plane crash Tuesday. BSF personnel gave the guard of honour with gun salute to Rout at the cremation ground before his mortal remains were consigned to flames.
Villagers, mourning the untimely demise of the 37-year-old son of the soil, queued up on both sides of the road to pay their last tributes to the jawan during a procession which started in the morning from Kandiahaat hospital premises to Deulatara.
“A father always wants his son to shoulder his bier to the cremation ground, but I am such an ill-fated person that I had to shoulder my only son’s bier,” said Balakrushna Rout (67), the jawan’s father, with tears rolling down his cheeks.
“Kishore was the lone bread-earner of my family. His death has left us in distress,” said Bilasini, the jawan’s mother.
Senior officials and local politicians attended the funeral. All business establishments of the area remained closed to pay tributes to the jawan.
Meanwhile, locals and the bereaved family members demanded a job to the jawan’s wife Pragati, so that she can take care of the family.
A Ranchi-bound BSF Superking aircraft carrying technicians crashed at Bagdola in Dwarka, New Delhi Tuesday and burst into flames outside the IGI Airport shortly after take-off. All 10 occupants were killed in the incident. PNN
