Baripada: A man brutally murdered his wife Thursday night by slicing her head open with an axe. The incident took place at Malihata village under Morada police station in Mayurbhanj district. Police recovered the body Friday morning after coming to know about the incident. The deceased has been identified as Parbati Mohanta, wife of accused husband Sibaprasad Mohanta.
Sources said the two frequently quarreled over Siba’s addiction to liquor. On most occasions, Siba used to physically assault Parbati leaving the latter crying in pain.
Like any other day, they again had a quarrel Thursday night. Then both fell asleep after dinner. Late in the night in a fit of rage, Siba got up and picked up an axe. Then he started hitting Parbati on the head with the blunt butt as well as the blade. In no time Parbati lay dead.
Hearing the commotion, family members and other villagers rushed to the spot. They found Parbati lying in a pool of blood. They informed police about the tragedy Friday morning.
The police seized the body and sent it for post-mortem. They arrested Siba and launched an investigation to ascertain the reason for the gruesome murder.
