Cuttack: Samsad Begum (3000m, girls’ under-20), Bikash Barwa (boys’ U-18, 400m hurdles), Divya Shanadilya (girls’ U-20 hammer) and Hemlata Bhuyan (women’s 3000m steeplechase) created new records in the 63rd State Athletics Championships which concluded at the Barabati Stadium here Wednesday.
Samsad completed her 3000m run in 10:39.60 seconds to create the first new state record on the day. It was then the turn of Bikash to set a blistering pace in the 400m hurdles and he finished the race in 55.00 seconds to etch his name in the record books.
Later in the Divya threw the hammer to a distance of 36.21m to create another state record while Hemlata finished the steeplechase in 13:13.50 seconds to end the day on a glorious note.
Cuttack district emerged the overall champions of the meet with 614 points while Sundargarh emerged runners-up with 356 points. The men’s title went to Orissa Police who accumulated 153 points while the women’s title was bagged by Cuttack with 72 points.
Amiya Mallick representing KIIT once more shone on the last day winning the 200m gold with a time 21.60 seconds to complete the coveted double of 100m and 200m.
With Dutee Chand missing in action in the women’s 200m, it was the chance for Damayanti Barik of Orissa Police to corner all the glory. She finished the race with a time of 26.70 seconds to take the gold. She was followed in second and third positions by Subhashree Tripathy (27.70s) and Anjana Mukhi (29.30s).
