Phulbani: In an untoward incident Wednesday, some locals allegedly thrashed and detained a seven-member team of special task force (STF) of the Crime Branch, when they were conducting a raid at Kakendri village under Sadar police limits in Kandhamal district.

Acting on a tip-off regarding illegal peddling of cannabis, the STF team raided Kakendri village Wednesday morning and interrogated some villagers, an official informed.
However, it triggered trouble. The STF personnel were not in their uniforms and the residents of the village could not identify them. The villagers grew suspicious and detained them. Some of the STF personnel were also manhandled.
A member of the STF team somehow managed to escape from the spot where they were detained. He then informed the local police station about their ordeal.
Immediately, Sadar police swung into action and rescued the sleuths. Later, the injured STF members were given medical treatment.
