Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident, two persons were killed and one was critically injured after a tractor overturned near Brahmani Balighat at Kaluria in the district late Sunday night.
The deceased have been identified as Narottam Behera and Rajiv Behera and the injured as Srikant Sahu of the locality.
They were friends and had been involved in illegal sand smuggling. As per their usual practice, they had raised sand from Brahmani Balighat and loaded it in their tractor Sunday night. While returning, due to some reasons, the tractor overturned.
After coming to know about the mishap, their family members and relatives reached the spot, rescued the trio and rushed them to a nearby government hospital. While undergoing treatment, Narottam and Rajiv succumbed to their injuries while Srikant is receiving treatment.
On getting information, police reached the hospital and recovered the bodies for post mortem and launched a probe.
