Kolkata: Back in the national cricket team after being ignored for almost five years, veteran pacer Ashish Nehra said here Saturday that it is tougher to make a comeback than making a debut. Before his comeback in the T20 away series in Australia, the left-arm pacer had last played for India in the semifinals of the 2011 World Cup.
“It’s very difficult to make a comeback. They are much more difficult than debuts. I’ve made a comeback after 36, so I know how difficult it is,” Nehra told the media here before the team’s departure for Bangladesh to play in the Asia Cup.
Nehra asserted that it is indeed tough for pacers to consistently perform in domestic cricket. “It’s not easy for pacers to keep performing day in and day out. There will be pressure. I train to play international cricket, not aim to play only domestic cricket,” informed the pacer.
On his chemistry with young pacer Jasprit Bumrah, the Delhi pacer said he is enjoying it. “It’s not that I always teach him as such. He is a unique bowler with a unique action. We are having a good partnership. Hopefully, we can continue it in the next couple of months,” stated Nehra. PTI
