Cuttack: The Orissa High Court Wednesday allowed the Commissionerate police (CP) to handcuff Dhalasamanta brothers while taking them for investigation and producing them in courts.
The high court in its order clarified the investigating officer will have to inform the Cuttack Sadar sub-divisional magistrate court about the ruling.
The court had concluded the hearing on the petition of Commissionerate Police to handcuff the dreaded criminal siblings Monday and reserved the verdict. Justice BK Nayak pronounced the verdict.
The counsel for the criminals, on the other hand, opposed the CP’s petition saying it is against the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
According to sources, the gangster brothers were involved in many notorious crimes and the police had seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during raids for their arrest. As the criminal brothers have several followers, they are being taken to court under high security. It is unsafe not to put handcuffs on the brothers, the CP appealed to the court.
Mysterious car
Commissionerate police Wednesday claimed to have unearthed substantial evidence regarding Dhalasamanta brothers’ involvement in the murder of their associates Om Prakash Swain and Deepak Mallick in 2013.
Police said they have seized one of the two vehicles used in the murder of Om and Dipu. “We have seized a Honda City car from Sambalpur which was used by the criminal brothers to dispose of the bodies of Om and Dipu in Jharkhand,” police commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania told the media Wednesday.
