Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is very likely to form over north Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around May 22 and by May 24; it is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm.
It would move north-westwards and reach near Odisha-West Bengal coasts around May 26 morning, informed the regional centre of India Meteorological Department here.
Under the influence of the cyclonic system, squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 km/h is likely to prevail over Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal May 23. The wind speed is likely to increase from May 23. The gale wind speed may reach 65-75 km/h gusting to 85 km/h from May 24 over major parts of central Bay of Bengal. It will then increase gradually.
Most places of coastal districts of Odisha are very likely to experience light to moderate rainfall and heavy rainfall at isolated places from May 25. It will intensify subsequently.
During these days, the sea conditions will be rough to very rough over Andaman Sea & adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal May 23, high to very high over major parts of central Bay of Bengal during May 24-26 and into North Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha – West Bengal coasts during May 25-27.
Keeping this in view, the fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of central Bay of Bengal from May 23 till May 27. Those who are out in the sea have been advised to return by May 23.
At the same time, the regional centre of IMD at Bhubaneswar advised people not to believe in fake news relating to the cyclone in a tweet Thursday.
“Don’t be panic, Also Don’t believe in Malafid exaggerated fake news related to possible cyclone track and land fall position. We are here, for You to break every bit & each second of update, on likely formation of a system over Bay of Bengal around 22nd May 2021,” read the tweet.
