Sambalpur: Three bodies were fished out from Chipilima power channel at Burla over last three days. It was confirmed Saturday the bodies were that of a mother and her two children.
A day after police recovered the body of a three-year-old boy from the power channel, the body of his mother was found floating at the same place Friday. The deceased was identified as Kalyani Rao (25) while the body of her daughter Manga Mamata Rao (5) had been recovered from the same place Thursday.
Police suspected it to be a case of murder. Police also recovered a gold necklace, ear-rings and a pair of silver anklets from the body of the woman that floated naked on the water.
The silence of Kalyani’s husband Kanta Rao of Dulampur under Atabira police station in Bargarh district gave credence to the doubt that they might have been murdered and their bodies disposed of in the channel.
Kalyani’s brother B Siva Rao was shocked after he knew the sudden death of his sister and her two kids. He could not even believe the deaths as her sister was in good terms with her husband and was staying happily with her kids.
Meanwhile, police handed over the bodies to their family after post mortem. As the bodies reached their village Dulampur, a heartrending scene was witnessed at the place.
Burla police started an investigation after lodging three separate cases.
According to sources, Kanta, a vegetable trader of Dulampur, had married Kalyani of Andhrapada under Bheden police station in Bargarh district in 2008. He stayed at Dulampur with Kalyani and his kids – Mamata and Manga Prakash Rao (3). Mamata studied at a local kindergarten.
According to sources, an altercation erupted between the couple March 7. Later, Kanta went to sell vegetables at Atabira weekly market.
Kalyani and her kids were last seen by neighbours travelling in a bus to Godabhaga. Kalyani told them that they were going to visit a fair.
Kalyani’s brother told police that she did not pick up his phone March 7 morning when Kalyani and her kids were said to be missing.
On his return home, Kanta failed to trace his wife and children. Later, Kanta apprised Godabhaga police about the missing of his wife and kids, police said.
They added that after bodies of his children were found, Kanta lodged a written complaint with police.
