Balugaon: In a heartrending incident, a couple distributing the wedding cards of their daughter was killed along with their car driver after their vehicle collided with an over-speeding truck on National Highway-16 near Naval Chhak here in Khurda district Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Umashankar Pal (58), his wife Geetanjali Pal (52) of Bhubaneswar and driver Santosh Dash (30) of Sijua under Khandagiri police limits.
According to sources, Umashankar worked as a DGM at Canara Bank in Bihar. He had been to Bhubaneswar for the marriage of his daughter slated for next week.
The incident occurred while Umashankar along with his wife Geetanjali on a car set out to distribute the wedding cards to their relatives in Berhampur. A truck collided with the car killing the driver on the spot.
Fire brigade personnel rescued the couple and admitted them to Balugaon hospital. However, the couple died while undergoing treatment. Police seized the vehicles and handed over the bodies to the family members after post-mortem. An investigation was launched into the incident. PNN
