Sundargarh, March 16: Maa Bhuasuni Club (MBC), Cuttack and Unit-VI Athletic Association (UAA), Bhubaneswar registered victories in their respective matches of the Inter-District Club Football Championships at different grounds here Wednesday.
MBC pipped Home Guard, Angul 4-3 via penalty shoot-out at the Sundargarh Stadium after both the sides failed to score in the regulation time.
Meanwhile, UAA fended off Birla Tyres’ challenge 4-1 via the tie-breaker at the Kundukela Jubilee Ground after the match ended 1-1 in the regulation time. Santosh Nayak (35th minute) scored for UAA while Susil Pradhan(39th minute) got the equaliser four minutes later.
Dominating wins
Punjab AG, Jharkhand AG and Allahabad AG scripted dominating wins in different matches of the IA&AD Inter-Zonal hockey tournament at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Wednesday.
Punjab thrashed Gwalior 6-2 while Jharkhand eked out a 3-1 win over Rajasthan. Allahabad spanked Chennai 4-0.
Chess tourney
IS Chess Centre and Cuttack District Chess Association (CDCA) will jointly organise the All India Fide Rating Chess Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, March 25-27.
“Players below ELO rating point of 1600 across the country are eligible to participate in the tournament. The competition will be played in nine rounds, which carries a prize purse of `1,00,000,” stated IS Chess Centre’s director Manas Pani in a press conference Wednesday.
