Bhubaneswar: The impact of rising severe heat wave was felt for the second consecutive day across the state with temperatures in as many as 16 towns of the state hovering over 42°C. The highest for the day was recorded at Titlagarh at 44.5°C. Two other places like Sonepur and Sundargarh recorded temperatures of 44°C. The capital city, where the temperature Monday had peaked at 45.8°C, boiled at 42.9°C Tuesday. Other places that recorded 42°C plus included Chandbali, Angul, Baripada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Hirakud, Talcher, Bhawani-patna, Bolangir, Malkangiri and Dhenkanal.
Heat claims 5; toll 24
Bhubaneswar: With no let-up in heat wave conditions in the state, sun-stroke related deaths reached 24 with five cases reported Tuesday. Heat wave, which continued to keep the state on boil, claimed five lives Tuesday, special relief commissioner’s office said, adding of these five cases, three were from Khurda and one each from Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts. The deceased were Pathani Ransingh, Udayanath Panda, Sumamani Kar from Khurda, Dhirendra Barik from Balasore and Banamali Nayak from Mayurbhanj. Of total 24 sunstroke deaths, 11 have been reported over last three days.
