Bolangir: Demanding immediate resignation of Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged link with Govind Sahu, the prime accused in school teacher Mamita Meher’s pre-planned murder, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday called for a dawn to dusk bandh in Bolangir district.
The saffron party also demanded a CBI investigation into the case. The party had also observed a 12-hour bandh in Kalahandi district over the same demands Wednesday.
The 12-hour bandh has thrown normal life out of gear with vehicular movement coming to a grinding halt. Vehicles were seen stranded by the roadsides. Similarly, shops and business establishments downed their shutters.
The murder of school teacher Mamita Meher has sent shockwaves across the state. The prime accused Govind Sahu confessed Wednesday to have murdered the teacher during interrogation.
Accused Sahu and the victim Mamita went to Bhawanipatna town in his car October 8. On their way back to the school, Sahu killed the lady teacher inside the car.
After killing Mamita, he set the body ablaze using highly volatile liquid substances to destroy proof before burying the burnt corpse in the stadium. He added salt on the burnt body to fasten its decomposition process.
He then directed the JCB machine operator to fill up the pit.
Acting on the allegation of Mamita’s family members, the police had detained Govind Sahu. He was kept at Titlagarh police barrack. Surprisingly, Sahu escaped from police custody on the night of October 17.
Launching a manhunt to nab Sahu, Bolangir police had announced an award of Rs1,00,000 for the person who would share information about Sahu.
However, he was arrested from a sugarcane farmland located behind her sister’s house at Budhipadar village under Bangomunda block October 19.
Upon his arrest, DIG (Northern Range) Deepak Kumar informed journalists at a presser that the deceased teacher was aware of two extra-marital affairs of Sahu and she had warned him to bring his illicit affairs to the fore. Since then, Sahu kept nurturing a grudge against her. And he finally eliminated her.
