Baripada: Five days after a man murdered his wife in an inebriated state by slitting her throat, Mayurbhanj district administration Monday swung into action and rehabilitated three of the woman’s four children.
The four children were bereaved overnight after their father was sent to jail for killing their mother.
Sanatan Dehuri (11) and Kuna Dehuri (9) – two sons of the couple – have been kept at Maa Mangala Balashram at Badasahi while a five-year-old daughter Anami Dehuri (5) has been rehabilitated at another centre at Baripada. Similarly, a close relative of the couple volunteered to bring up their two-year-old son Ribeswar and the administration accepted the proposal.
Rairangpur CDPO in-charge Malati Marandi, superviser Janani Mahant and Anganwadi worker Suhati Singh and district child protection officer Mamatamayee Biswal played crucial roles in rehabilitating the kids.
The gruesome incident took place May 31 in Abhaysahi of Mankadagada village under Gorumahisani police limits in the district.
According to reports, the couple of Khadia community Ranga Dehuri and Raimani Bhuk lived with their four children in a shanty near the sal forest of the village. They used to eke out a living by collecting forest produce. However, Ranga slit his wife’s throat with a knife May 31 night over a trivial issue killing her on the spot. Both were in a drunken state.
Police reached the spot and arrested the man after registering a case. The four siblings were left helpless after Ranga was lodged in jail. Later, police made arrangements to keep the children at the home of one of couple’s relatives and contacted the district administration for their rehabilitation.
