Bhubaneswar, June 15: Actor-turned BJD politician Papu Pom Pom Wednesday admitted to taking `3.94 lakh from Oscar Group chairman Prabhas Rout during the 2014 Assembly elections.
Papu – whose real name is Tatwa Prakash Satapathy – had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly elections on a BJD ticket from Champua constituency. Papu said he had taken the money as a loan from the chairman of the ponzi firm, and added that he had repaid `2.94 lakh.
“Rout had given me `3.94 lakh. Of this, I have repaid `2.94 lakh which I had taken as loan,” Papu said.
Papu said while he received `2.50 lakh as a loan from Rout prior to his nomination, he later received `1.44 lakh in three instalments of `14,000, `30,000 and `1 lakh. When asked about the remaining `1 lakh which he is yet to repay, the Oriya comedian said Rout owed him a similar amount.
However, Papu during submission of his nomination had mentioned in his affidavit that he received `2.5 lakh as loan from Rout. In the election expenditure affidavit, he stated that he had received
Rs 1.44 lakh as a donation from Rout.
Papu said like many other actors he was in the dark regarding the activities of the chit fund companies. He also said that he would fully cooperate with the Crime Branch in its investigation.
