Bangalore, July 1: India’s specialist Test wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha said Friday that it is difficult to fill in the void created due to Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement from the longer version as he has been such a proven match-winner for a good period of time.
“After Dhoni bhai’s retirement, filling his boots as the wicket-keeper is not an easy task because he has won many matches for us. He has been a dominant character in world cricket,” Saha told reporters here after the Indian team’s training session at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
“I am trying to do in my own small way what Dhoni bhai did for us – that is to win matches with contributions coming from his bat as well as by taking catches and effecting stumpings in crucial situations,” he added.
The 31-year-old said that whenever he gets an opportunity, he speaks to Dhoni to seek his advice and benefit from his tips. Replying to another query, Saha said he would try to do better with the bat in West Indies tour as his performance wasn’t good in the last series.
“We have done well in the last one year in Australia and Sri Lanka. However, I am not satisfied with my individual show. Would certainly try to better it in the West Indies,” stated the Bengal glovesman.
“If I can get consistently 60-70 runs in an innings, then it will certainly help my cause as well as the team’s. That is the best possible method to cement my place in the side also,” Saha added. PTI
