Bhubaneswar, July 20: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday reviewed the dengue situation after the dreaded disease claimed three lives in the state.
Presiding over a meeting at the Secretariat here, Patnaik asked concerned officials of health, industries and urban development departments to coordinate with one another and take preventive measures to curb its spread which has already taken 22 states under its grip.
As of Wednesday 1574 dengue cases have been detected in Orissa, health officials have said.
The Chief Minister who directed the health department officials to intensify dengue awareness drive in the state also asked industries department officials to ensure industries adhere to government instructions to contain dengue menace in their area.
It was informed at the meeting that fogging machine, knapsack, sprayer and larvacide are being used in industrial areas and other dengue-prone civic bodies.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak said dengue surveillance work has been launched by his department June 26 and testing facilities have been put in place at 37 places in the state. Awareness drives against dengue, malaria and diarrhoea are being conducted since July 15.
The Chief Minister also took stock of Diarrhoea outbreak at Kalyansinghpur in Rayagada district. Officials at the meeting said it is under control and the government has set up temporary camps for immediate treatment of diarrhoea.
