New Delhi, July 24: Sahitya Akademi has invited applications from young writers in different Indian languages for the ‘Yuva Puraskar’.
The award was instituted in 2011 to encourage young writers in Indian languages. Works in Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Santali, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu are considered for the award.
The winners are presented with a purse of Rs50,000, a plaque and a citation. Since 2011, 106 writers have been conferred with the award.
Six writers from Orissa — Debasish Mishra (‘Daaga’), Sujit Kumar Panda (‘Manasanka’), Narendra Kumar Bhoi (‘Pidaparba’), Kshetrabasi Naik (‘Dadan’), Srushthishree Naik (‘Bhirna Upabana’), Gayatribala Panda (‘Gaan’) — have bagged the award so far.
The award is generally given for maiden creations by writers or the best book written by a young Indian author. The age limit for application is 35 or below as on January 1 of the year the award is given.
The last date for application is September 30 and the applicants will also need to submit their books along with attested copies of birth certificates. The applicants can send in their entries through the Sahitya Akademi website or by post.
