Bhubaneswar, July 29: A city-based dance academy is organising NAMAN, an Odissi dance festival, in Bangalore August 7. The event is to be held at ADA Rangamandira on J C Road, Bangalore. Madhulita Mohapatra, the artistic director of the institution, has stated that the festival, which is aimed at promoting Odissi nationally, is into its 7th edition this year.
One key solo performer at the festival is Niladri Mohanty. Among group performers, there is Guru Meera Das who will present compositions with her team Gunjan Dance Ensemble, Cuttack. Guru Meera is known for her abhinaya.
One other notable presence at the festival will be USA-based Kaustavi Sarkar. Kaustavi is a researcher at Ohio State University and teaches Odissi dance there.
“Naman means ‘salutation’. It is a tribute to the teacher, the visible embodiment of God. The festival pays rich tributes to Odissi gurus who have made invaluable contributions to the growth and popularisation of this dance form. In our previous editions, we featured several well-known artistes such as Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, Sangeeta Dash, Guru Aruna Mohanty, Guru Bijayini Satapathy, and Guru Madhavi Mudgal,” Madhulita said.
