Bhubaneswar, July 29: Rakesh Kumar Nayak of Orissa maintained the top spot after the completion of the sixth round of the Ist Macaulay All India Fide Rating Chess Championships here, Friday.
Rakesh is leading the pack with six points in his kitty after getting the better of his West Bengal counterpart Anirban Basu in the sixth round. Orissa’s Rajesh Nayak, Mohammad Ashraf and West Bengal’s Anurag Jaiswal and Sarbojit Paul, are sharing the second place with five points each. Six players, including five from Orissa and Anirban, are in the joint third spot with 4.5 points apiece.
Rakesh’s elder brother Rajesh prevailed over statemate Sanjeeban Nayak (4) while Ashraf got the better of Baran de Sawyan (4). Anurag defeated Orissa’s Manish Kumar (4) while Sarbojit overcame Maheswar Mishra’s (4) challenge. In another match teen age player Miracle Panda stunned higher rated Santosh Panda with an emphatic victory.
8 players share lead
Eight players are leading the pack with three points each after the completion of the third round of the IVth Umesh Chandra Mishra Memorial All Orissa Open Chess Championships, organised by Chess Association of Orissa (CAO) here Friday. Eighty-eight players including 16 rated players from 12 districts of the state are participating in this three-day nine-round Swiss Championships.
Prakash Sahoo, Prabhat Ojha, M Ranjan, Amit Mohanty, Kamal Nayak, Manas Singh, Prabodh Mishra and Sahadev Khatei are sharing the lead.
Samridh takes halfway lead
Siliguri lad Samridh Sen took the halfway lead at the Orissa Juniors Golf 2016 after carding a 79 at the Bhubaneswar Golf Club here, Friday.
He leads Kolkata’s Smito Snigdho Deb by two strokes going into the final round, Saturday. Armaan Parikh of Tatanagar is placed third a stroke behind at 82 followed by Souvik Nayak a further two strokes behind at 84. Souvik leads Category B over Pratham Choudhary who will chance his arm in the final round being only two strokes in the arrears at 86. Ranchi’s Shaurya Ekka is also in the hunt a further stroke behind.
Joysurjo Dey once again justified his top billing in Category C as he leads second placed Aarnav Sharma by a clear four strokes after carding a 77. Close behind in third place is Biren Kumar who carded an 82 followed by Ramayush Ray four strokes behind at 86.
