Sambalpur: Vigilance sleuths Tuesday conducted a raid at a woman constable’s residence and unearthed assets worth `1.43 crore in raids at three different places. The constable was identified as Jayanti Sahu, posted at Bareipali outpost under Ainthapali police limits in the town here.
Officials also seized cash worth `1.4 lakh from her house. A case was registered while the raids were continuing till the time of filing this report.
According to sources, Jayanti of Jagannathprasad in Ganjam district is posted as a constable at Bareipali outpost. The raid was conducted after several complaints were lodged against Jayanti of amassing assets disproportionate to her known sources of income.
A special team was formed on the orders of a Vigilance special judge. The team conducted a surprise raid early Tuesday morning. Another team conducted a sudden raid at Jayanti’s Sambalpur residence.
Similarly, another team reached her village Jagannathprasad while a team conducted a raid at her outpost office. Jayanti owned a single-storied building along with two plots at Remed, officials said. The market value of the properties was estimated to range close to a staggering `61.94 lakh, according to officials.
Household items, electricity and electronics, gold and silver ornaments, a Mahindra XUV, three tankers, a Royal Enfield bike and a moped – all worth around `74.29 lakh were found, officials said.
Officials seized `1.4 lakh from her possession while `5.89 lakh was learnt to be in her name at different post offices and life insurance companies.
The raid on the orders of Vigilance superintendent of police Pankaj Narayan was conducted by Vigilance DSP Rabindra Kumar Pradhan, inspector Meenakshi Pradhan, Abhay Pradhan, Chandrakala Jena and other officials. PNN
