Bhubaneswar, Sept 14: Members of different forums and parties met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday following his appeal for suggestions on the Mahanadi dispute. The government is seeking views ahead of the September 17 tripartite meeting in New Delhi.
Leaders of CPI (M), Forward Block, and members of Orissa Swabhimani Manch, Nadi Surakshya Samukhya and Mahila Samukhya met Patnaik at the Secretariat and give suggestions to resolve the dispute with Chhattisgarh.
Members of senior citizen forum, Bhubaneswar Mahila Samukhya, Kinnar Sangh, Orissa minority forum, Muslim Samaj, Sikh Samaj, Santali Sangathan as well as nature, environment and wildlife society discussed the issue with him, officials of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.
Some other organisations are likely to meet the Chief Minister Thursday. In a bid to find out a proper and timely solution to the Mahanadi dispute the Chief Minister, after holding a preparatory meeting Monday for the September 17 tripartite meeting had called for suggestions from individuals, voluntary organisations and political parties.
Notably, the September 17 tripartite meeting involving Centre, Orissa and Chhattisgarh has been convened by Union water resources minister Uma Bharti, after both the states failed to reach on a consensus for formation of Joint Control Board proposed in the tripartite meeting of July 29 to resolve the Mahanadi water sharing dispute.
