Berhampur: The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here has found a place in the Asia Book of Records for building a pair of giant 43-foot-long hockey sticks using scrap iron. The sticks were unveiled just before the beginning of the FIH Men’s World Cup in Odisha. The sticks have been installed at ITI’s open-air scrap sculpture park. Students of Welding, Painting and Electric departments took a fortnight time to build this scrap sculpture.
Over 3 tonne of automobile, scrap were used to build the hockey sticks and were unveiled January 13 by Minister for Urban Development Usha Devi in the presence of Berhampur MP Chandra Sekhar Sahu, Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda, Aska MLA Manjula Swain, Ganjam Collector and SP, Berhampur.
“The students want to motivate more and more people to take up the game of hockey. That is the main reason why they created such a unique sculpture. It has been attracting thousands of people every day, ITI principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahy informed Monday here.
