Balasore: Tension prevailed at the Balasore family court premises here Tuesday as a man allegedly thrashed his estranged wife with a helmet. The two had come to the court to attend their divorce petition hearing. The estranged couple was identified as Ratikant Panigrahi and his wife Rashmirekha Panigrahi of Majhikia area under Chandipur police limits in this district.
Sources said that the couple had filed a divorce petition in the family court three years ago and the two had arrived to attend a hearing. Suddenly the man and the woman got involved in an argument over the payment of alimony. Ratikant lost his cool and attacked Rashmirekha with a helmet repeatedly hitting her on the head and other parts of her body. The woman collapsed at the incessant beating and lost her senses. Police said that Rashmirekha has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
