Berhampur: Nimakhandi police in the Silk City arrested two siblings Tuesday on charges of fraudulent sale of land. The accused had used fake documents for selling the land to two brothers. The accused were identified as Dillip Kumar Mishra, 72, and his younger brother Ashok, 62, of Brahmanagar locality in this city. Both the accused are from the teaching profession. Dillip is a retired professor of a college while Ashok is a teacher, police said.
A case was registered in this connection and the accused were produced in court, police said. Police informed that Sarat Kumar Mishra and his younger brother Salil are residents of Siddharth Nagar locality. The younger among the two, Salil, works as a director of a private bank abroad. The accused brothers had sold six plots of land at Gurunthi mouza to Sarat and Salil in FY 2010-11 by using fake documents. The fraud was detected when Salil returned home a few months back. Sarat and Salil decided to construct a wall around their plots and visited Gurunthi mouza. There a person opposed their construction work claiming some of the land as his own. The victims verified the land records and related documents and found that three out of the six plots are registered in the name of another person. They met Dillip and Ashok and confronted them on the issue. The accused duo assured to return Rs 15 lakh to Sarat and Salil on a particular date and signed an agreement in this regard.
However, they failed to return the money on the designated date. The accused even threatened Sarat and Salil when the two urged the accused to return the amount. Left with no option, the victims lodged a police complaint, following which Dillip and Ashok were arrested.
