Bhubaneswar, Nov 30: A four-day national-level art camp ‘Mo Sapna ro Orissa’ got under way at Sanskruti Bhawan here Wednesday. The art camp is being organised by Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi.
About 30 Oriya artists from all over India are participating in the camp at which they will make paintings of former chief minister Biju Patnaik and Orissa of his dreams.
Culture secretary Manaranjan Panigrahi inaugurated the camp and spoke of the great leader and his contribution to building the state.
Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi president Raghunath Mohapatra also shared his experience of meeting the leader. Painter Jatin Das was among the other dignitaries at the inaugural function.
Bhubaneswar-based artist Gourahari Das, started work on his version of the former CM with his favourite colour, purple. “I am trying to project Biju Patnaik’s dream. He used to give equal emphasis to modern technology and tradition. He wanted Orissa to progress in industrial sector, and also popularised Oriya culture in Indonesia by starting Boita Bandhana there. He dreamt of an Orissa that was rooted and developed,” the artist said.
Bishnupriya Patra, another artist participating in the camp started work on a painting that is to show children flying two giant kites. “He was a progressive leader and wanted the best for the state. Besides progress in industry and technology, he wanted Orissa to be a land where children would get a safe environment to grow.
Biju Patnaik dreamt of a golden Orissa that had no room for violence and people lived together in a friendly atmosphere,” she said.
Tarakant Parida, the secretary of Orissa Lalit Kala Akademi, said: “The paintings made at the camp will be exhibited on the final day. Each artist will be presented with `10,000 along with `2,000 each towards meeting their painting kit and travel expenses.”
