Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a truck driver hit some pedestrians and at least two vehicles resulting in the death of one person here Tuesday.
The truck (OD-02-W-8346) hit three persons in quick succession. The person who came under the truck’s wheels near SBI succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. Another person named Bijay Kumar Mallick was hit in the area while the truck sped away towards Sahid Nagar after crushing one more man in the area. Police identified the deceased as Kishore Chandra Sahoo (22), who was a crane driver, of Jajpur and the driver as Indramani Rout (34) of Athagarh.
Mancheswar police said the deceased’s father Ashok Kumar Sahoo lodged a complaint with them Tuesday evening. “A case (343/16) has been registered in this regard and we are further investigating the matter,” they said.
“The truck hit a Hyundai i10 car while going towards Sahid Nagar. The truck driver, who was moving on the wrong side in Sahid Nagar, also hit a Toyota Innova SUV (OD-02-F-2200). The SUV’s driver and passengers caught the truck driver and handed him over to the police,” they added.
SUV’s driver Kumbadigal said the truck driver was on the wrong side and he failed to flee as they tried to catch him. “The Hyundai i10 car driver also came to Sahid Nagar area in a bid to catch the driver,” he added.
Police said after the series of accidents and hitting a multi-utility vehicle in Mancheswar area, the truck driver took a flyover to reach Satsang Vihar area.
