Bhubaneswar: Balasore Sports Hostel (BSH) emerged champions of the Biju Patnaik Gold Cup football tournament defeating Nayagarh Sports Hostel (NSH) 5-4 via the tie-breaker in a keenly-contested final at the Unit-VI High School Ground here Monday.
The match ended goal less in the stipulated time despite some aggressive football by both the teams. In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Gopal Hembram, Sibanath Munda, Dula Murmu, Raisan Tudu and Shivram Hansda converted for BSH while Raja Toppo, Badal Kanhar, D Sanjay and Indra Pratihari hit the target for NSH.
VEMS win
Venkateswar English Medium School (VEMS) registered an easy 19 runs victory over Kendriya Vidyalaya-II (KV-II), CRPF in a match of the Kusha Patnaik Memorial Inter-School cricket tournament at the BJB Ground here Monday.
Opting to bat first, VEMS scored 149 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 25 overs with contributions from Lalit Mohan Mohanty (30), Jyoti Prakash Mallick (23) and Khalik Khan (28). Biswajit Seth (4/23) was the pick of the bowlers for KVII.
In reply KV II were bowled out for 130 in 23.4 overs despite a splendid half century by Nageswar Guru. Man of the match Khalik (4/23) put up an all-round show to scalp four wickets.
Ayurved College triumph
Ayurved College defeated Padmapur in the final to emerge champions of the Nursinghanath Cup Badminton Tournament at Paikmal, Monday. Thirty two teams participated in this tournament.
