Bhubaneswar: There is some good news for the smart city’s fish eaters. The state government Saturday opened a Chilika Fresh outlet here at Sahid Nagar to provide fresh and hygienic fishes to the residents at a reasonable price.
Fisheries and animal husbandry development minister Pradeep Maharathy inaugurated the kiosk in presence of local MP Prasanna Patsani, local MLAs Bijay Mohanty and Priyadarshi Mishra and department secretary Bishnupada Sethy.
“Our aim is to provide a proper market to the fishermen, who will get legitimate price for their catch and secure their livelihood, while people of the city can get fresh products at a reasonable price,” Maharathy said.
This is the third Chilika Fresh outlet in the capital city. Earlier, the government in collaboration with FISHFED (State Fishermen Co-operative Federation) had opened two such outlets at OUAT Square and CRP Square.
Seafood lovers can now buy fresh fish, shrimp, crab, prawn, etc., from the outlets. They can also order their favourite fish and sea food through the online platform by logging on to www.chilikafresh.in.
Recently, the state government had signed a MoU with Falcon Marine Exports Limited (FMEL) to open 26 Chilika Fresh outlets in Bhubaneswar. Besides, the government is also planning to open about 100 such outlets in various districts.
