Bhubaneswar: A voluntary outfit Monday claimed that it conducted the maiden free health camp at Kandalei Mundasahi situated near Chandaka-Damapada elephant sanctuary on the city outskirts.
According to a release issued by Indian Social Service and Charitable Trust (ISSCT), lack of all-weather road to the hamlet has long stood as an obstacle for the villagers to avail of basic amenities including electricity, which remains a dream for them even today. Though the habitation is situated just 25 km away from the city, ambulances cannot reach it because of lack of road connectivity, said the release.
ISSCT conducted a health camp in which it found that several people are under the grip of malnutrition. The outfit conducted health check-ups on 200 residents and distributed medicines among them, the release claimed.
The outfit found that most of the residents of the hamlet use handia (a watery intoxicant) as their staple food.
Programme coordinator Sushanta Sahu along with his team organised the health camp, which was inaugurated by local sarpanch Bishnu Prasad Denga and Jatni block development officer Sanjay Kumar Rout.
