Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has invited proposals from private real estate players to develop 1,300 affordable housing units in Satya Nagar area of Smart District.
The development followed a decision taken by the state cabinet to provide affordable housing for economically weaker sections (EWS). The scheme – Shanti Nagar Awas Yojana (SNAY) – would be developed over 10 acre land.
The developer would construct 1,300 housing units on 6.5 acre land while the remaining 3.5 acre will be left for the player to develop it for high-end residential and commercial complexes. The developer can sell the residential and commercial units to recover the project cost, said BDA sources.
SNAY, as part of the Housing for All Policy-2015 of the state government, aims at providing affordable housing for urban poor and making cities slum-free.
The proposed location is around 3.2 km from the city railway station and 6.5 km from Biju Patnaik International Airport. The real estate developer has to complete the slum rehabilitation project within 24 months after commencement of work.
Individual firms or consortiums having net worth of `50 crore till March 31, 2016 would be eligible to apply for SNAY projects.
The SRP on 6.5 acre land will ensure provision of social infrastructure like shopping and community facilities, internal roads, sewerage treatment plant and adequate drainage system.
Notably, BDA has set a target of 10,000 EWS houses by April, 2017 under the Housing for All policy. A plan has also been made to develop over 7,000 EWS units in the city.
