Rourkela: The viscera report of Sushmita Minz, former assistant collector of this town suggests that she died due to drowning, police said here Monday. The report thus ended speculation that she was murdered. Rourkela SP, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra informed that the police had received the viscera report. “We have received the viscera report and at the moment we are examining it. The report suggests that she died due to drowning,” Mohapatra said. Sushmita’s death attracted a lot of attention as she was working in an important capacity. Her body was found floating in the pond at Sensory Park in front of RSP’s corporate office September 19.
Despite being one of the busiest places in this town, no one saw Sushmita entering the park. Her body was noticed by locals who immediately informed the police. Later on, it became known that before her demise Sushmita was staying in Hotel Radhika Regency here. The hotel later informed that she had checked in September 16. It also became public that she was having problems in her office and with her family.
Following the discovery of her body, Sushmita’s brother Sandip had filed a police complaint. In the complaint, he had alleged that Sushmita had been murdered. He had also blamed five persons for their involvement in her death. He had alleged that the Sundargarh Collector, ADM Rourkela, Gurundia CDPO, and ASI of Uditnnagar PS were behind the ‘murder of Sushmita’.
Police had interrogated 15 persons regarding the death of Sushmita. It should also be mentioned here that the ASI mentioned in the complaint, Alice Narma Lugun died under mysterious circumstances a few days after Sushmita’s demise. DSP Banita Majhi, Human Rights Protection Cell was responsible for investigating the case.
Many tribal organisations jumped in support of Sushmita. George Tirkey, former MLA of Biramitrapur trashed the viscera report Monday. “I don’t believe this report. It is purely a murder case,” Tirkey said.
