Cuttack: If you are dumping the sewage from your septic tank on the road or allowing it to flow into drains, you may end up in giving penalty to the civic body. Also, the private agencies engaged in cleaning septic tanks in the city cannot arbitrarily dispose of the sewage.
“Taking cleanliness a step forward, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has decided to engage cesspool vehicles for collection of sewage. A special cell has been set up by the civic body under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT),” CMC commissioner Gyana Das said. The cell would function with the technical support of Mohit Kapur who has been appointed by housing and urban development department, he added.
The civic body will engage a private agency for management of the cesspool vehicles through tenders. The agency will clean the septic tanks in the city and dispose of the effluents at Mattagajpur treatment plant which is under construction under AMRUT. Besides, the private agencies engaged in cleaning septic tanks cannot charge arbitrarily. The civic body will fix the rate. Penalty will be imposed on agencies trying to fleece the people, sources said.
Similarly, penalty will be levied on those who would be caught littering roads.
A meeting for proper management of cesspool vehicles, which were procured recently, was held at the CMC office Saturday. The civic authorities apprised the bidders of the rules, regulations and the functioning of the vehicles.
The workers who would be engaged in collection of waste will be imparted training. Similarly, awareness will be created in every ward against unlawful disposal of sewage, sources said.
