Cuttack: Exposing loopholes in the security system, a few miscreants recently burgled ornaments and cash from the residence of Dhenkanal family court judge Debidatta Devi in Sector 11 of the CDA area here.
Devi’s husband advocate Ramesh Chandra Rath blamed slack police patrolling in the locality for the burglary. Incidentally, Devi’s house is located close to CDA Phase-II police station.
Devi and Rath had gone to Dhenkanal after locking their two-story residential building Friday. They returned to the building Monday and found that one of its windows had been damaged, sources said.
They latter discovered that someone had stolen gold ornaments weighing 50 grams and `4,000 from a cupboard after damaging it. The couple lodged a complaint in this regard with the Phase-II police.
A scientific team of the Commissionerate Police visited the building and began an investigation.
“We have registered a case in this regard under IPC sections 457 and 380. A few persons have been questioned in connection with the incident. We are collecting available CCTV footages from the locality to indentify the burglars,” said Phase-II police station in-charge Dillip Swain.
Notably, a few miscreants had looted valuables from the CDA area residence of retired High Court judge Pradyumna Kumar Mohanty after tying his hands and feet May 30, 2015. Subsequently, a theft case was reported from the house of advocate Ajay Mohanty in the same locality.
“Miscreants are targeting the houses of lawyers and judges in the CDA area by taking advantage of slack police patrolling at night. The Commissionerate Police are yet to install CCTV cameras in the locality. The police have failed to provide security to the locals,” said advocate Satyabrata Pradhan.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sanjeev Arora said they were conducting raids to arrest the miscreants who had stolen valuables from Devi’s residence.
