New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils (DD) snapped their five-match losing streak as they beat defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets to stay afloat in IPL-10 here, Tuesday.
None of the DD batsmen got huge scores while chasing the victory target of 186 set by SRH. But most of the top order – Sanju Samson (24, 19b, 2×4, 1×6), Karun Nair (39, 20b, 5×4, 2×6), Rishabh Pant (34, 20b, 4×4, 1×6) and Sheryas Iyer (33, 25b, 1×4 2×6) provided useful contributions and set up the platform for Corey Anderson (41 n o, 24b, 2×4, 3×6) and Chris Morris (15 n o, 7b, 1×4, 1×6) to finish off the chase with five balls remaining in the game at the Feroz Shah Kotla here.
For SRH pacer Mohammed Siraj (2/41) picked up two wickets, but it was again Rashid Khan (none for 24 off six) who caught the eye. The other wicket-takers for SRH were Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/33) and Siddharth Kaul (1/38).
With the win, DD jumped to sixth spot with six points from nine matches while Sunrisers remained at third with 13 points from 11 games.
Earlier, DD managed to choke SRH in the middle overs but Yuvraj Singh’s (70 n o, 41b, 11×4, 1×6) splendid batting late in the innings led the defending champions to a challenging score of 185/3.
Samson dropped Yuvraj on 29 and the dashing left-hander exploited it to hit his second fifty of the season. He was well supported by Moses Henriques (25 n o, 18b, 2×4) and the two put on unbeaten stand of 93 runs for the fourth wicket. But in the end that did not help SRH’s cause.
In the last three overs, SRH collected 52 runs with Kagiso Rabada leaking 39 runs in 18th and 20th overs.
SRH, who were put in, started brilliantly with skipper David Warner (30, 21b, 4×4, 1×6)Shikhar Dhawan (28, 17b, 4×4, 1×6) putting on 53 runs in less than six overs. Warner was bowled by a beautiful yorker by comeback man Mohammed Shami (2/36) and then the SRH innings stuttered a bit. Amit Mishra (1/23) was the other wicket-taker for the hosts.
