Koraput: In a tragic incident near Lathiguda village in Dasamantapur block of this district, a man was killed and another was seriously injured Saturday in a landslide. The injured person is currently undergoing treatment at the Koraput Medical College here.
The deceased was identified as Madhu Badanayak, 35, and the injured person is Dambarudhara Badanayak, 30. Eye witnesses said Madhu and Dambarudhara, both residents of Lathiguda village under Koraput Sadar police station limits, were fetching soil from a nearby hill to demarcate various plots of land. As they were digging a huge chunk of soil fell on them burying them completely.
Locals promptly informed the cops who in turn pressed into service a fire brigade team. The team reached the accident spot and brought out the two from the pile of soil. However, by then Madhu had breathed his last while Dambarudhara was senseless. He was rushed to the hospital where he is undergoing treatment. Doctors said Sunday that Dambarudhara’s condition is stable. Police also sent Madhu’s body for post-mortem following which it was handed over to his family for the last rites. A pall of gloom has descended on the Lathiguda village.
