Bhubaneswar: The craze for Baahubali-2 The Conclusion might have gripped the entire nation. It didn’t spare the temple city as well. But, there’s something beyond the craze as well for Bhubaneswarites. It’s a proud moment for Oriyas here. Guess why? The Rajamouli magnum has links with Orissa as well. The epic film has contributions from three Oriya visual artists.
Janmanjay Palei of Puri, Biraja Kinkar Barik and Tapan Maharana of Khurda were a part of the flick’s visual team. So, which were the scenes that had contributions from these youngsters?
“We did the visual art in the last part of the movie. Effects in the fighting scenes were mostly done by our team,” Janmanjay said.
“There were around 33 companies, who were assigned to work on various scenes. We did the 17 minutes-long fighting sequence. It took us more than a year to complete that. It is really a tough job to create visual effects and to make them look real and not fake,” he added.
Janmanjay was elated to be a part of the film. “It was a great experience to work in such a good movie. The movie could be a new milestone in the Indian film industry,” he added.
Janmanjay, who hails from Kansa in Puri, has also worked in Hindi and Punjabi movies, including Sanaam Re, Hate Story, Love Game, Machine, and Jai Gangajal.
Biraja Kinkar Barik, who birijahails from Tankol village in Khurda, was also happy to be a part of the film.
“Visual art is a unique thing. You need to blend real objects and imaginary things or background. To complete a five minute scene, it takes six months,” said Birija.
Biraja claims that in India visual art and graphics designing has developed to a great extent.
“About 80 percent visual effects works for Hollywood and other movie industries are done in India. There are lots of talented people in our country. Baahubali is the first movie that matched the levels of a Hollywood movie. It was possible because the filmmakers have given visual artists enough time to finish the work,” he added.
Biraja has also worked in at least 15 Hindi movies, including Jay Ho, Me Tera Hero, and Jai Gangajal.
Tapan Maharana said that he wanted to focus more on his career as a visual artist post the success of Baahubali. Sanjat Mishra of Balangir also got the opportunity of designing graphics for social media promotion of the blockbuster movie and executed it successfully.
