Kotpad: Police arrested Sunday a youth on charges of raping a four-year old at Choramula village under Kusumi panchayat and Kotpad police limits in Koraput district. The accused was identified as Narsingh Bhumia, a resident of the same village. A medical examination was conducted on the accused and the victim before producing the former in court. The incident has sparked tension in the village. The gruesome incident occurred Friday, when the girl was playing in front of her house while her mother was working in the backyard. The accused allegedly carried the minor to a desolate place and raped her. However, when Bhumia was returning with the victim, her mother found the two of them. On being questioned, Bhumia stated that he had taken the girl for an ice cream. He left the girl at her home and went away.
However, when the victim fell sick and complained of excruciating pain in her private parts, her mother guessed something amiss. The victim also managed to narrate to her mother the ordeal she had been through. The woman then complained Bhumia at the Kotpad police station. In her complaint, she mentioned that Bhumia picked up her daughter from the house and raped her behind a school building in the village. Police detained Bhumia who confessed to the crime during interrogation following which he was arrested.
