Hyderabad: Paceman Jaydev Unadkat (5/30) picked up five wickets including a hat-trick as Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) eked out a 12-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to jump to the second spot in IPL, here Saturday.
Defending a modest 148, the Pune outfit came up with a superb bowling performance with Unadkat and Ben Stokes (3/30) doing the maximum damage, especially in the final overs to restrict Hyderabad to 136 for nine.
Unadkat took a hat-trick in the final over of the match when Pune needed 13 runs, to shut the door on the visitors. He sent back Bipul Sharma (eight), Rashid Khan (three) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0) with the second, third and fourth deliveries of the 20th over. It was third hat-trick of the season.
At one stage, the defending champions were cruising along comfortably when veteran Yuvraj Singh (47, 43b, 4×4, 2×6) and skipper David Warner (40, 34b, 5×4, 1×6) were at the crease. However, once Stokes had Warner caught at sweeper cover by Shardul Thakur, everything fell apart for SRH.
Earlier, SRH dished out a tidy bowling performance, led by Siddarth Kaul (4/29) to restrict RPS to a modest total. Kaul was well-supported by leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
RPS found the going tough and were 39 for two in the seventh over. Skipper Steve Smith (34, 39b) and Ben Stokes (39, 25b, 1×4, 3×6) though steadied the rocking boat, putting on 60 runs together for the third wicket, they failed to up the ante. However it was MS Dhoni (31, 21b, 2×4, 2×6) who gave some momentum to the innings.
