Bhubaneswar, June 6: A group of physically-challenged dancers performed Odissi on wheel chairs at Rabindra Mandap Tuesday. They showed that nothing is impossible to a willing heart at the 12th Odissi dance festival—‘Guru Dakshina.’ Mahiraa Jaan Pasha and Sayed Sallauddin Pasha had trained these artistes. “It took 30 years of hard work that has brought uniqueness to the classical dance in wheel chair. These disabled artistes have worked hard and created history by performing on the wheelchair. They are presenting different classical dances and Abhinaya,” Mahiraa said. It was a gala evening for dance and music lovers in the city. They witnessed the beauty of an enchanting group performance by artistes of Kalashram. The audience was also enthralled by a duet performed by Prasant Kumar Behera and Bhumika Das. The festival proceeded with the group Odissi recital of ‘Puspanjali.’ A dancer from the group Smruti Mohapatra elaborated the significance of the presentation. “The recital titled as Puspanjali portrays the offering of flowers to the Gods and to the teachers. This is an act of respect and gratitude towards all. The recital is also dedicated to audience,” she said. The recital has been choreographed by Guru Bijak Kumar Das. Around 11 artistes from Kalashram presented the recital.
The duet titled as ‘Barsha’ – a season of love, was showcased by two young dancers Prasant and Bhumika from the city. The poetic recital of Barsha was set to Ektaal. It depicted the
importance of rain and consequences of drought. “This presentation welcomes the rainy season or the season of love. We have presented the beauty of the season with our moves and facial expressions,” said Prasant. Aruna Mohanty has choreographed the dance. Sayed Sallauddin was felicitated with Guru Dakshina award2017.
