Keonjhar: In a freak mishap, a man from Badasahi in Mushakhori village under Patana police limits in Keonjhar district died after a tree branch fell on him while he was collecting firewood in a forest.
The deceased was identified as Gobardhan Das. According to reports, Das had gone to the Kashia forest near his home to gather firewood.
While cutting a branch, another branch fell on his head, seriously injuring him. Locals rushed Das to the Patana Community Health Center, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Das was reportedly employed as a night watchman at the Tribal Development Corporation in Dhenkikote. Patana police ASI Gaurahari Garadia visited the spot and conducted an investigation.
The body was sent for a post-mortem before police handed it over to the family. A case of unnatural death (no. 9/25) has been registered at the Patana police station, and further investigations are underway.
