Bhubaneswar, July 24:It was a proud moment for the Oriya film industry. An Oriya independent film ‘Khyanikaa – The Lost Idea’ had been selected for the upcoming Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival 2017 to be held at Mississauga, Ontario in Canada. The film has been directed by Amartya Bhattacharyya. It will be screened, August 5. This will be the second international festival screening of the film. Prior to this, the film had an excellent response at its world premiere at Hidden Gems Film Festival in Calgary. The festival director there had praised the film. “After the film got screened at Calgary, Louis B Hobson, who has been a film-critic for over forty years, had described it as a film that practically stirs up the soul,” said Amartya. Happy with the selection, Amartya said, “I am glad that the film is being appreciated in bigger platforms like this. I am hopeful that the film will do well in future too.”
The film revolves around the story of two men— a poet and a painter. They are shown claiming possession over the same Idea, in a village. The hamlet has been depicted as a wonderland. The filmmaker has personified Idea as a beautiful young lady. The Idea is free from all bondages. In the film, both the characters try to justify their claim over the Idea. They have their own ways of doing that. They try to present the Idea through their forms of art. However, they fail to settle the conflict of interest. Thus, they approach the Fate—per
sonified as a big fat man. They urge Fate to judge their claims and resolve the conflict. However, they realise that the Fate is no man’s possession. It is independent and free. With this realization in mind, they bury the ‘Fate’ and opt for a mutual settlement. Meanwhile, the Idea gets attracted to a kid’s imaginative world. The fantasy world is devoid of the complexities and stark realities of the materialistic world. Thus, the real world looses the Idea forever, as it enters into the fantasy-driven world of the kid.
