A viral video has stirred controversy after a woman influencer claimed that Japan is planning to impose a ‘bachelor tax’ starting April 2026 to penalise people for remaining single.
In the video, the woman alleges that the Japanese government is considering this measure in response to the country’s declining birthrate. She claimed that the tax revenue collected would be redirected to support individuals or families who have children or are willing to have them.
However, there has been no official statement from the Japanese government confirming such a move. As of now, the claim appears to be a rumour with no basis in public policy.
