Koraput: In the wake of complaints from the farming community of Nandapur block in Koraput district about the shortage and black-marketing of urea fertiliser, local administration conducted a surprise inspection at multiple godowns Monday evening.
Complaints have emerged that certain traders are allegedly selling urea at inflated prices. Nandapur tehsildar Bedabrata Maharana, accompanied by district agriculture official Linga Raj Choudhury, conducted the check at several godowns and retail outlets in Nandapur town.
During the checks, officials verified stock registers, reviewed availability, and cross-examined pricing practices to curb malpractice.

Farmers alleged that due to artificial scarcity, they are being forced to pay beyond the government rates. Taking note of these complaints, the tehsildar issued a warning to shopkeepers against hoarding and black marketing.
The tehsildar said, “Farmers should not suffer due to artificial shortage or illegal practices. Strict action will be taken against anyone found hoarding.”
