Watford: Miguel Britos grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for Watford to give a dramatic finish to their EPL opener against Liverpool at the Vicarage Road here, Saturday. The match ended 3-3.
In another match played on the day defending champions Chelsea suffered a 1-3 reverse at the hands of Burnley.
Watford found a late equaliser in the injury time when Liverpool failed to defend a corner, and Britos was able to tap in from close range from Richarlison’s pass.
The Reds had fallen behind with Stefano Okako heading in a Jose Holebas corner unmarked from six yards out. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side did eventually find a way back into the game through Sadio Mane, who restored the parity. However, Abdoulaye Doucoure struck easily from close range after a sloppy defense to put Watford ahead again before the break.
Roberto Firmino then scored from the spot on 55 minutes to make the score 2-2 and then set up Mohamed Salah with a wonderful chip to put the Reds ahead three minutes later.
Earlier in the EPL opener played late Friday night, Olivier Giroud came off the bench to head a late winner for Arsenal as the Gunners had to come from behind twice to beat Leicester City 4-3 the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s new signing Alexandre Lacazette put the hosts ahead in the second minute. Shinji Okazaki however, restored parity three minutes later for the Foxes. Then Jamie Vardy put them ahead in the 29th minute before Danny Welbeck struck the equaliser just before the break.
Vardy then scored again to make it 3-2 for Leicester City on 56 minutes. However Aaron Ramsey denied their supremacy, scoring in the 83rd minute before Frenchman Giroud dashed the Foxes’ hopes.
