Bhadrak/Dhamnagar: Dengue has been spreading in Bhadrak with 58 people having been diagnosed with the disease.
The district headquarters hospital itself reported 27 dengue cases. These patients have returned home after treatment.
Subash Das from Aradi Nandapur was admitted to the DHH Saturday for treatment of dengue.
He was working in Tamil Nadu. There are no special wards in the DHH for dengue patients. The patients were instead being treated in six beds at the sun stroke ward.
Of the 58 patients, 54 were migrant workers, said the CDMO Gitanjali Patnaik.
Meanwhile reports from Dhamnagar said six persons, claiming to be from this area, were reportedly diagnosed with dengue and undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Cuttack.
But, the health experts said that dengue is under control when compared with the situation last year. But the spread of the disease can’t be ruled out if no effective measures are taken, locals said.
All the persons diagnosed with dengue had migrated outside the district.
In 2011 and 2012, over 100 persons have been affected by dengue in Bhadrak. About 10 persons had died of the disease in the two years.
In 2015, 126 persons were diagnosed with dengue while the figure went down to 52 in 2016. Though the health department has been carrying out awareness programmes, it hasn’t been successful in its efforts to eliminate the disease completely from the state.
Reports said,six persons who are down with dengue from Dhamnagar used to work in Tamil Nadu, Bangalore and Kolkata. They are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in Cuttack. The dengue patients have identified themselves from places such as Karda, Gobindapur, Rameswarpur, Nadigan, Bamkura and Dhusuri.
However, the health extension officer Kishore Chandra Panda said teh identities of patients claiming to be from Dhamnagar area have not been established so fare.
Medical officer of the local hospital Dr Prfaulla Ghadei said that awareness programmes are being carried out by health officials from 11 primary health centres and 135 Gaon Kalyan Samitis (GKS).
Each GKS is supposed to report dengue cases. They are also distributing medicated mosquito nets and medicines to people.
On instructionS from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, GKS will raise awareness about the the disease in each panchayat August 15, Ghadei said.
